The schtick on #FightFor15 and raising the minimum wage is that it helps people out of poverty. But as Ted Cruz pointed out at a recent meeting with black business owners, it'll actually hurts those same people it's intended to help. It's a giant duh to us and probably to you. But here we have a man running for president who isn't afraid to go against the political grain to say it.

“Every time you raise the minimum wage, thousands of people lose their jobs, and the people who are laid off are typically teenagers — low-income, African-American and Hispanic kids,” Cruz said according to The Brooklyn Paper. “If you raise the price of labor too high, you substitute it with an iPad.”

Business owners may have difficultly overcoming the added cost of labor from an increased minimum wage. They could be forced to increase prices or cutback their workforce, with new and low-skilled workers being most at risk of losing employment. Moody’s Investors Service determined Thursday the problem is especially troublesome for low-profit businesses, like restaurants.

“Most people aren’t providing for a family on their first job, that’s when they’re just getting started, they’re learning skills,” Cruz said. “I think every first job should focus on empowering.”

Why? Well we've been over that so many times one gets tired of saying it. But because I love you, here it goes: the minimum wage is just an arbitrary number. It doesn't reflect the value of the job, it's just a number someone somewhere deemed "fair." Raise that arbitrary number and the job may no longer be worth that arbitrary amount. But what Ted Cruz is doing is pivotal. Instead of going along with the narrative of MINIMUM WAGES ARE FAIR coming from all sides of the political spectrum, Cruz said heck to the no. He even took the time to explain why it's harmful to people. Again...

This is why Ted Cruz is doing well this primary season. He doesn't just accept the narrative. He bothers to explain, rationally, why leftism is stupid. Why leftism harms people. It's the same reason he won Iowa even though he came out against ethanol subsidies. Gotta give him props for that.
