'Think Progress' Uses Romaine Lettuce Recall to Push Gun Control
You've probably familiar with the current recall on romaine lettuce. I think most of us would rather it be iceberg coming off the shelves, but we'll manage. The leftist digital snot rag, Think Progress, saw the romaine recall as the perfect parallel for banning guns.
Yes, it's every bit as stupid as it sounds.
On Thanksgiving Day 2018, Americans couldn’t buy romaine lettuce because of a CDC recall linked to an E. Coli outbreak. But even though gun violence is so mundane that a shooting at a mall in Alabama Thursday evening barely made national news, guns were still freely available at stores like Walmart across the country. While firearm ownership within the context of a well-regulated militia is protected by the Constitution’s Second Amendment and there is no constitutional protection for any vegetable, much less lettuce, the Bill of Rights was written when slow-loading muskets made the idea of a mass shooting an improbable nightmare.
Uh, they just nullified their own argument with that last sentence. Think Progress is correct, packing heat is a constitutional right. On the other hand, there's no amendment declaring your right to chop and chomp on romaine shan't be infringed. Once you acknowledge that, the argument for why the government can't ban blasters ends right there.
As for the "Second Amendment is for muskets only" argument, if we're going down that path, let's apply it evenly. The freedoms of speech and the press only apply then to 18th century media. Which means newspapers, spoken word, and quill-and-parchment are the only acceptable forms of communication. The protection against unreasonable searches and seizures doesn't apply to phones or computers. I guess some of you had better get busy wiping out those browser histories.
Every other one of the left's attempts at grabbing the gats has gone up in smoke. So, now they're pulling romaine hearts from their bums. This might actually explain where the E. coli came from. These lefties might think they've got us in a checkmate. In reality, these progressive butt-nuggets are just further proving they have no idea what they're talking about.
