Miriah Vanlith is doing a ten-year stint at the South Idaho Correctional Institution for raping two teenage boys. She is also bored and is looking for pen pals. So, Miriah recorded a video--from prison--looking for friends, and it's been posted to her TikTok account. She ends the video by blowing a kiss to the camera. A video, recorded from prison, where she is serving time for child rape.

Did I mention she lured one of her victims using the internet? And that TikTok has 18 million American users under the age of fourteen? Both factoids seem relevant.

According to the Idaho Statesman, the Idaho Department of Correction says that while they don't condone such communication, there is nothing they can do to stop her. Inmates don't have access to the internet, but they can use something called JPay to send videos to people from outside the prison. One of those people it would appear is running Vanlith's social media empire while she does time for raping children.

Her first video was posted in the beginning of July, and she already has over 33,000 followers. In one of her videos, she thanked her "fans" for the “overwhelming response" to her content.

Prison officials have no control over third-party apps, nor do they have control over what people do with videos from inmates once they receive them. Yes, even inmates convicted of raping children. As of this writing, no one knows who Vanlith's social media director is.

Miriah says that the big mistakes she's made in the past don't define who she is. And that she, quote, "learned and [has] grown a lot in the last five years." Critics might point to how she, after grooming a teenager online, is now using a social media app popular with teens and younger to meet "friends." I'd say that calls into question how much she has grown.
