Too Little Too Late? NFL May Penalize Anthem Kneelers
As you'll recall, last year the NFL went all in on the social justice jihad. Against the dastardly national anthem. Patriotism, it's just so 2001. Far too many players, many of whom are millionaires, decided the best way to show a grateful attitude was to sit out a 30-second anthem honoring the country in which they're earning millions. Really stick it to those Americans who just wanted to watch guys fight over a pig-skinned ball. Not be lectured to about social justice from guys who, again, are giggling all the way to the bank. As a result of this public relations snafu, the NFL saw ratings deflate like Tom Brady's ball boy working overtime. Flipping off the American people, not a good idea after all. Now the NFL, in full scramble of post Cover Your Anus, is dripping out rumors reports they'll bitchslap their kneeling players.
The NFL is expected to approve a new policy to require league players to stand for the national anthem, following months of deliberations on how to handle protests on the field.Team owners are set to vote Wednesday in Atlanta on the policy, which will allow them to fine players and any other team personnel for kneeling or disrespecting the national anthem on the field, ESPN reports.
At least 24 owners, who have wavered on how to handle players kneeling during the performance of the anthem before games, are reported to support the measure.
You probably know several people who, last season, stopped watching football. If I can get personal for just a second, my mother stopped watching her beloved team last year over these protests. Prior to the protesting, she referred to the team as "her boys" or "her guys." She loves football but gave it up over the anthem protests. Her story is anecdotal, yes, but probably representative of a great swath of the country.
Now, the left will likely come out and scream about race. They'll say "Rich white male owners are telling young men of color what to do." Players have the option to remain in the locker room while the anthem is being sung. The point is not to bring attention to it. If a player wants to sit out the anthem, fine. But do it in hiding. No more attention for you. No more attention for your protest. The game is about football, not how woke you are.
Also, a team owner (boss) telling players (employees) how to behave on the field (work) should be a non-issue. If I went to a live performance of Louder with Crowder and Steven said "Hey guys, we're going to go out on stage and wave to people" and I was all "No way because that's sexist and you can't control my body" I'd probably be canned. Team owners telling their players not to be assholes is hardly controversial. The owners are even compromising by allowing players to be dicks, just to do it privately.
Real question is, will the NFL's ratings rebound after telling most of America to screw off for all of last season? Sound off in the comments.
