Trey Parker on Lazy Trump Jokes: I'm sick of it being the headline...
South Park creator Trey Parker sounds like he's had enough of lazy Trump jokes. And has this crazy idea that people should get a break from said lazy Trump jokes.
I miss Cartman dressing up like a robot and farting on Butters. I want to get back to that. Especially since everything you turn on now and any kind of comedy, it's like. "Ok, how are they making fun of Trump? How are they ripping on Trump?" In the same way I'm sick of it being the headline every day, there's other s*** in the world going on. And yeah, I get it. Everyone is freaked out. But other s*** is happening. Life is happening still. I want to get back to those things with the boys, and have it be a nice break for everybody."
To be fair, I'm not sure when exactly this podcast was recorded. It was only uploaded a few days ago, but that means nothing on YouTube. It sounds like Parker is talking about Season 20, when South Park just finished Season 21. But the larger point still stands. Because Trump hysterics have only gotten worse. As you may have noticed from the past week (see Maxine Waters Rallies Against Conservatives on Immigration. Claims God is on Her Side and Sarah Sanders Kicked Out of Restaurant Over Ties to Trump). People deserve a break from the deluge of anti-Trumpism. Especially when it comes to comedy. The purpose of comedy is to laugh. Not to test the roll limits of your eye sockets.
Not that I think South Park will ever drop satirizing what's in the news. I'd be disappointed if they did. I would, however, not mind Cartman farting on Butters. Immature? Sure. Political? In no way. Which would be perfection.
