The Biden Campaign sees abortion as one of his “winning” issues, so much so that Biden believes he can beat Trump in Florida, as it is on the ballot this Nov. However, Donald Trump says abortion restrictions should be left to states, according to a newly released video detailing his stance on the issue.
He made the announcement in a video released on his social media platform Truth Social. The presumptive Republican nominee fell short of taking a definitive position on what is likely to be a deciding issue for many voters come November.
“My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote, or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land — in this case — the law of the state. Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will have more conservative than others. And that's what they will be,” Trump said in his video.
MSNBC is framing this as Trump being in favor of extremist views because he supports Florida's six-week abortion ban. On top of that, they claimed that this is about "life and death" for the mother.
"Not all women get abortions. A minority of women get abortions. And when you get to abortions, about 1.14 percent of abortions performed had anything to do with saving or helping the mother's life,” Crowder said. “Ninety percent of abortions are performed for economic reasons.”
Although Trump sees abortion as a state-by-state issue, he did appoint three out of the six judges who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“I think the best you can hope for is states right at this point. A lot of that has been leveraged through legislation that has saved babies. I think you have to take that win,” Crowder said. “Roe v. Wade was bad law and the way to overturn it is exactly how it took place and we don't want to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory."
On the other side of criticism, some conservatives believe that keeping this as a state-by-state issue does nothing but help Democrats in their fight to condone late-term abortion.
"Reserve some of the attacks here on Trump because the left is saying he is supporting abortion with no exceptions whatsoever. They are going to attack him on a position he does not hold," Crowder said. "In the position that he is in, [Trump] did a pretty good job."
