2017 brought us plenty of news fakery. It's been a constant contest between the dunces at CNN, MSNBC, BuzzFeed, you know the lot. Now there's a trophy for that contest, courtesy of the president himself. Yes really. It's 2017 after all. The grease trap from which the fakest news has erupted shall be crowned "Fake News King." I hear "Beckoner of of Bullshit" is also an acceptable pronoun.

Commence the crowning!

“Americans are sick and tired of being lied to, insulted, and treated with outright condescension,” reads an email sent to supporters Thursday. “That’s why President Trump is crowning the 2017 KING OF FAKE NEWS before the end of the year.

The Trump campaign’s email links to a poll where participants can vote on three media stories as “fake,” “faker” or “fakest” news.

The candidates for “fakest news” are all stories that networks either retracted, corrected or apologized for, including an ABC News report that Michael Flynn would testify against Trump; a CNN report that Trump and his son, Donald Jr., were offered early access to WikiLeaks documents; and a Time magazine report that Trump had a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. removed from the Oval Office.

I don't imagine this is the kind of presidential recognition these news networks always dreamed of. Alas, a public spanking has long been in order. The people have been sick of mainstream media's crap since before Trump was even a Republican. Such an award will bring glee into the hearts of Americans across the nation.

Again, this a real thing. Cast your vote here. Do your civic duty. An interesting tidbit of information -- this is all being done as a follow up to a Trump Twitter gem from November.

What can we say? Trump is a man of his word.

Now, should the President of the United States engage in such behavior? Would conservatives have liked it had Obama held an award for "Fake News"? Probably not. If you're out there shaking your head saying "this isn't presidential" it's hard to argue with you. Alas, here we are. I guess we should enjoy what we can. And, to be fair, only retracted or proven bullcrap stories are allowed entry. So there's that glimmer of hope, at least.
