Trump Follows Through on 23-Year-Old Promise: Officially Opens US Embassy in Jerusalem
President Donald Trump followed through with a promise made by the American Congress in 1995. He finally moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem. Here's Trump's full statement:
There's a chance many here don't know the full history of the move of our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Lemme provide a quick refresher. Congress voted to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in 1995. Many of us Millennials and even some Gen Xers are too young to remember this happening. Even better odds we didn't care. What with being young whippersnappers in grade school, high school, or some of us, still womb-side. If not even conceived by more attractive versions of mom and dad getting frisky in the Toyota Tercel.
Point is, this process began 23 years ago, during the Clinton administration. Bill Clinton didn't move the embassy to Jerusalem, even though the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 called for the embassy's relocation by 1999. It was a confusing time for Bill Clinton, who needed clarification on the word "is." Must have been all that fondling of interns.
Clinton left office after serving two terms and George W. Bush became president. During his eight years in office, despite having an R after his name and initiating the "war on terror," Dubya didn't move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Maybe his excuse was choking on a pretzel.
Then came Barack Hussein Obama. Let's just skip that jackass.
Trump, love him or hate him, actually followed through on an old promise made by America. Trump did today what presidents are supposed to do: follow through on the will of the people, be part of the American government not just a "king" (like Obama wished). So while the media today tries to make this embassy move mostly about Trump, or the pissy Palestinians who just can't even, remember this move was a long time promised. And Trump, despite all his foibles, fulfilled it.
