Remember how the left thinks energy from the sun is the best idea since strategically cut dough? Looks like Trump just called their bluff. Leftists are doing a double take as Trump adds a green initiative to border security, via solar panels on the wall.

Amid the fallout of the United States' withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, President Donald Trump on Tuesday appeared to embrace an environmentally-friendly solution to what he calls the country's immigration crisis: Suggesting that solar panels could cover his border wall, two government sources told NBC News.

Thomas Gleason of North Las Vegas, Nevada, is also a fan of a solar wall — so much so that his company, Gleason Partners LLC, submitted a formal proposal to build it.

"We proposed a wall that pays for itself, and it looks pretty darned nice," Gleason told NBC affiliate KSNV of Las Vegas when he turned in the proposal in April. He said the project could pay for itself in about five years.

Rock meet hard place. Because now Trump can say something like "I'm putting solar panels on the wall. How could you oppose it? Do you HATE THE PLANET?"

Troll level: expert.

On one mannish (but meticulously manicured) hand, the wall will produce "clean" energy via well-placed solar panels in a mostly sunny climate. A global warming proponent's equivalent of a moist dream. On the other manicured hand, a wall (solar paneled or graffitied) cuts off the free flow of illegal aliens. Who might one day vote Democrat. We call this a "conflict of interest."

But Senate Democrats threw scorn on that estimate. In April, they released a report estimating that a wall as envisioned by Trump would cost about $70 billion just to build — and $150 million a year more to maintain.

Firstly, it's always adorable when Democrats care about spending. Secondly, our budget is in the trillions. A wall, which is necessary for basic security and sovereignty, should actually be provided by the government. Perhaps if the Democrats are concerned about spending, they do what the rest of America does: cut those things they do not need, to fund those things they do. #BudgetingBasics.

Thirdly, it's true solar energy is never cost effective. We've known that since forever. But if we're going to erect a structure in the middle of the sunny, sunny dessert, pop some sun-juicers on it. Why the heck not? If for no other reason than to troll the left hard.
