Even the most ardent Trump haters on the right can admire this. He'll not only bash the New York Times, he'll bash the Times right to their faces. Like in this recent interview. For the most part, it was a medley of his Twitter thoughts. But his opinion on the press going in to 2020 is particularly biting.

Mr. Trump said he believes members of the news media will eventually cover him more favorably because they are profiting from the interest in his presidency and thus will want him re-elected.

“Another reason that I’m going to win another four years is because newspapers, television, all forms of media will tank if I’m not there because without me, their ratings are going down the tubes,” Mr. Trump said, then invoked one of his preferred insults. “Without me, The New York Times will indeed be not the failing New York Times, but the failed New York Times.”

He added: “So they basically have to let me win. And eventually, probably six months before the election, they’ll be loving me because they’re saying, ‘Please, please, don’t lose Donald Trump.’ O.K.”

Seriously though, this tangerine-hued fella's not wrong. Whether this is good for democracy or the health of the country is a debate for another time. But, every time the media collects the money on the nightstand next to an empty condom wrapper, they know it's true. The mainstream media is the potted plant in the corner. Donald Trump is Harvey Weinstein, after shotgunning a bottle of Cialis.

Look at this week alone. There were stories about how how Melania hates trees, and outrage because Ivanka wears clothes and took her son fishing. A key reason Trump won in the first place is the close to TWO BILLION DOLLARS in earned (free) media he was given by the press. Something he'll continue to exploit in 2020.

Donald Trump knows the media needs him more than he needs them, and he's spent the last year acting accordingly.

And the press just takes it.
