Former President Trump is set to headline a rally in South Dakota Friday alongside Gov. Kristi Noem, fueling speculation that the Gov. will be trading in views of Mount Rushmore for a home at the Naval Observatory.
“Oh, absolutely,” Noem said during an interview with Newsmax when asked whether she would consider a theoretical opportunity to be Trump’s running mate.
“I would in a heartbeat,” she added. “Just because you respect the position and the person who asks you to do something and then see if you really believe that you could make a difference.”
Trump and Noem will both appear at the Monumental Leaders Rally in Rapid City, S.D., where Noem is expected to endorse the former president and the rumor mill is speculating this is also her announcement as his vice president pick.
“Trump needs a strong partner if he’s going to take back the White House,” she argued. “And he’s going to need somebody who knows what it’s like to run a business, to be an employee, earn a paycheck, but also having a wife, mom, and grandma isn’t bad either. And I think that that kind of perspective would weigh in very well on a lot of policy decisions.”
Noem’s claim to fame rose in 2020 as her state beat the invisible enemy by not threatening residents with house arrest claiming she valued people's “freedoms and liberties.” But those protected freedoms stopped short when it came to protecting the liberties of women in “the land of infinite variety.”
In 2021 Noem was accused of caving to the NCAA after she sent a bill to ban biological men from playing girls sports back to the state legislature.
"I'm not interested in picking a fight [in court] that we can’t win," Noem told Tucker Carlson at that time.
Fortunately, Noem has since backtracked and signed bills that ban both gender-affirming treatments for minors as well as males from competing in girls’ and women’s sports in the state.
Ron DeSantis, who also rose to fame for his COVID response, and is Trump’s most viable opponent, might not stand a chance when it comes to beating the former president, according to Noem.
“It’s early to be having these conversations,” Noem said. “Obviously, President Trump is doing very well in the Republican primary. I don’t see how anybody else can beat him and I’ve supported him in this race because he’s the best one to lead our country.”
Trump currently leads DeSantis in the polls by at least 27 points. And according to Noem, if you can’t beat him, join him.
