Leftists Cry 'Whitewashing' Over Scarlett Johansson's Latest Role. Misses HUGE Ironies...
Scarlett Johansson has been busying herself with taking on plenty of new roles in the past few years. She's easy on the eyes. You'd be hard pressed to find many people who take issue with her looks. Even if she's not your cup of tea, we can agree she's reached a certain level of success. Okay? Okay.
But yes, she's a major leftist. A leftist who loves Planned Parenthood. Therefore this story has a certain level of fun. Why is it fun? ScarJo's new role in a Japanese manga turned live-action film has sparked controversy. Why? You guessed it... She's white.
The first image of the Hollywood star as cyborg policewoman Major Kusanagi hit the web on Thursday as production began on the live-action reworking, reigniting a "whitewashing" row that has been rumbling ever since her casting was announced.
Hang on people. Here we go...
So here's the super cool thing about movies: they're not real. And the people who make them? They get to do whatever they want with the subject matter.
Contrary to popular belief, film producers are not beholden to this arbitrary set of PC rules. They don't have to fill diversity quotas if they don't want to. Take note, Oscar boycotters (see Halle Berry Moronically Talks #OscarsSoWhite and Her 'Iconic' Award). And yes, they can retell a story and change all the characters in whichever way they like. Did SJW Twitter lose their minds over preserving the integrity of the original Ghostbusters? Nobody was upset when 4 classic, hysterical male roles were filled by 4 awkward, pudgy looking women. #Equality
Hey, I get the notion of authenticity. I, too, was peeved by one of Scarlett Johansson's recent roles. They cast her as Kaa from the Jungle Book. Why not a real snake? What, they couldn't find any snake actors? Enough with the human-washing of animal roles already.
On a more serious note, though, does anybody find it ironic that these guys are upset over a white woman playing a character that was designed by Asian artists to look like a white woman? I mean, really, have they ever looked at manga or anime characters? Tell me they don't look suspiciously Anglo...
I'm willing to bet these are the same people who were upset that Zoe Saldana, a black woman, was cast as Nina Simone... A black woman. Because she wasn't black enough. Also, she's too pretty. That's proof enough that these loons will never be satisfied. Meanwhile, Hermoine being re-cast as a black girl is totes okay. But Matt Damon saying that talent and merit outweigh race is a travesty.
Make up your minds, leftists. Either no one can recast roles to different genders and different races, OR everyone can take on everyone else's roles regardless of race or gender. But to go halvsies is a bit moronic. Entertaining? Yes. Moronic? Still yes.
