UK: Man Defends Himself from Burglars, Killing One. Gets Arrested for Murder.
If you take nothing else from this story, just be grateful early Americans high-tailed it out of Great Britain. Then later defeated the tea-swilling sods in two wars. Good choices. Because today we're learning a retired old fart defended himself against two burglars in the Olde Country. He defended himself well, killing one of the burglars. Only for the bobbies to arrest him -- the home-owner and victim -- for murder.
A 78-year-old homeowner has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a suspected burglar 'armed with a screwdriver was stabbed to death during a break-in'.Police were called to reports of a burglary at a house in Hither Green in South London at around 12:45 am this morning, in a road described as "very quiet".
Now I know the Brits do things differently, like breaking weird language rules. The river "Thames" is pronounced "Tems" I crap you not. "Chiswick" is pronounced "Chez-ick." Lunatics. So maybe they have a different definition of "murder" than that of the colonies. In the United States, the only country which has been to the moon, murder needs premeditation. As in an intention to kill prior to the killing. An accidental killing, again in America, is "manslaughter." Then again, in America, where we're capable of pronouncing our "Rs" we have actual rights. Like if two snot-shooters bust into your domicile, you, the owner of the domicile, has rights to defend yourself and your domicile. Like grabbing a knife and skewering a burglar like he's nothing but a banger served with toast.
"Bangers" are what our former countrymen call "sausages." I love Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin so much right now.
The problem so far as I can tell here, aside from England being an island of tyranny, is the home-owner did "too much" to defend himself. Look, a video:

A spokesman said: "A struggle had ensued in the kitchen during which one of the males found inside the property sustained a stab wound to the upper body."
He later died. Because our retired old codger just stuck the knife in once, right where it counted. When one is as old as 78, one doesn't have the time to mess about stabbing a criminal multiple times. Gotta save your finger strength for spreading jam on crumpets.
So far the authorities care not if the victim did what he had to do to defend himself. Rights are as common in the UK as attention to dental health.
I realize "LOL, the Brits have bad teeth" is an easy target. Don't care.
This is the same United Kingdom which jailed a man for a joke involving a pug. The same United Kingdom which goes out of its way to cater to rapey, bombastic sleazebags whose religion shall not be named. This is the same United Kingdom which gets more triggered over words, pronounced correctly or incorrectly, than acts of violence.
This is why America has the protections and laws it does. Give a wave to the Bill of Rights, protecting innocent people from getting screwed by their own government since the late eighteenth century.
Again, to the Founders, I say "good call, mates."
