NOT SATIRE: UN Appoints Saudi Arabia to Special Committee... For Women's Rights?!
Have we mentioned lately that we hate the United Nations? They're a festering pustule of wrong. A notion unto which this story is the perfect testament. The UN recently displayed its crappy decision making skills by appointing Saudi Arabia to a pro-woman committee. Yes, THAT Saudi Arabia (see Transgenders are Tortured, Killed by Saudi Arabian Police and Saudi Arabia Forces Spineless UN to Remove them From Blacklist…of Child-Killing).
Apparently the United Nations felt it right to reward the country for its stellar work in the field of women's rights...
The UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) elected 13 members, including Saudi Arabia, to four-year terms on the Commission on the Status of Women, which is exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.Out of 144 on the Global Gender Gap Index, Saudi Arabia was ranked 141 in 2016. In recent years, the Al Saud regime has come under intense pressure by rights groups for mistreating women.
Saudi Arabia has a proven track record when it comes to "mistreating" women. And that is putting it mildly...
Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving. The ban stems from a religious fatwa imposed by Wahhabi clerics. If women get behind the wheel in the kingdom, they may be arrested, sent to court and even flogged. Under Saudi law, a woman must have permission from a male family member, normally the father, husband or brother -- in the case of a widow, sometimes her son -- to obtain a passport, marry, travel, exit prison and sometimes work or access health care.
This is an actual thing that happened. To use a feminist-favorite word, one might say it's "problematic" for a few reasons beyond the ones listed above. Namely the fact that women's rights and Islamic countries go together like socialists and jobs. The two are mutually exclusive. And whenever people try to empower women in the Middle East, Muslims have none of it (see Nike Middle East Releases Female Empowerment Ad. Muslims Rage!). Hence the issue at hand.
Alas, worry not, I'm sure a truck load of liberals wearing crocheted vagina hats will be marching on the UN any minute now...
Yeah, a leftist rally against Islam and its anti-womanness isn't happening any time soon. Check back in a few millennia. Because at present, it seems feminists can spare not a single care in the world when it comes to Islam's abuse of women. Sure, they busy themselves trying to fabricate proof of the West's non-existent rape culture. But on the subject of the Middle East's hatred of all things women? Hardly a squawk shall erupt from feminist cry cannons.
But don't take my word for it. Just contrast the left's silence on Islamic rape culture with this...
