The US Department of Education is writing the wrongs of the University of Pennsylvania for violating Title IX sex discrimination when it forced female athletes to compete against a male swimmer who would have otherwise failed on the guys' team.

According to CNN:

The university was found to have denied “women equal opportunities by permitting males to compete in women’s intercollegiate athletics and to occupy women-only intimate facilities.”

Lia Thomas, a transgender woman, won the 2022 NCAA championship in the women’s 500-yard freestyle. The government’s Monday edict did not mention Thomas by name.

Per the press release, the school is required to complete the following demands:

(i) Issue a statement to the University community stating that the University will comply with Title IX in all of its athletic programs;

(ii) Restore to all female athletes all individual athletic records, titles, honors, awards or similar recognition for Division I swimming competitions misappropriated by male athletes competing in female categories; and

(iii) Send a letter to each female athlete whose individual recognition is restored expressing an apology on behalf of the University for allowing her educational experience in athletics to be marred by sex discrimination.

This needed to be done, but the very fact that it was necessary is a scandal in itself. And while this is a step in the right direction, it's pathetic that they had to be forced into doing the right thing.

This went far beyond men simply stealing titles—this was a direct attack on the rights of female athletes everywhere, and the damage is far from being corrected. Additionally, female-only spaces were destroyed all in the name of inclusivity, and that is something no one will ever be able to comprehend.

It’s baffling what the university demanded of these young women, and the fact that the left called it compassionate, while labeling anyone who disagreed as bigoted or transphobic, makes it all the more disturbing. Fortunately, Americans voted to make sanity great again, and we can be cautiously optimistic that things will slowly but surely begin to turn around.
