US Attorney General Suing California Over Illegal Immigration Laws
For the past year, California has gone out of its way to morph itself into an illegal immigrant haven. California's government cares about illegals like Harvey Weinstein cares about door lock redundancy. To much the same effect. When it comes to pesky issues like "enforcing immigration law" elected officials have had both middle fingers swirling in the air (see California AG: I’ll Prosecute Employers Who Work With Immigration Officials and Sanctuary State: California Mayor Warns Illegals of ICE Raid).
Attorney General Jeff Sessions has a two-word message for all of that: Lawyer up.
Amid escalating tensions with Washington over immigration raids, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is traveling to Sacramento to drop a bombshell: The federal government is suing California over its new immigration laws.The United States is seeking to block three state laws — including its so-called “sanctuary state” policy relating to local law enforcement — that, the lawsuit says, “reflect a deliberate effort by California to obstruct the United States’ enforcement of federal immigration law.”
A brief interruption for an emotional display via animated gif:
- Senate Bill 54, which sets limits on cooperation between California police and federal immigration agents in immigration enforcement;
- Assembly Bill 450, carried in anticipation of workplace raids, which requires employers to ask for proper court documents before allowing immigration agents access to the workplace or to employee information;
- Provisions in Assembly Bill 103, a budget trailer bill, that require the California Attorney General to conduct reviews of public and privately run immigration detention centers that contract with ICE.
It must be the week for long overdue lawsuits.
Suing the pants off California is the only thing the AG can do. For the longest time, the government would pass laws -- or try to pass laws -- dealing with illegal immigration. Cities got away with "Immigration laws DEEZ." California dropped its pants, mooned the feds. FYI, it has a tramp stamp of Nancy Pelosi's addled face. California all but took a steaming crap on every immigration law to come down the federal government pike. They flat out said they weren't going to enforce the laws. On top of that, they were going to go after LEGAL citizens who did enforce the laws. All because Trumpin' Trumpy Trump Trump Trump.
Adorable.
Whether or not Sessions is just issuing a threat or will actually follow through, we'll see. If it's unclear where we line up, allow me to make it abundantly clear: NAIL THE BASTARDS.
