There are several details coming out of the Uvalde school shooting, and each one turns an already sickening event that much more sickening. The scumbag fired his gun for TEN MINUTES outside of the school without being engaged by police, then walked through an unlocked front door. Parents were outside being prevented from saving their kids by police who were not saving their kids. Though, some police did run in... to save their own kids. But this story from the WSJ got to me. It's about Angeli Rose Gomez.

Ms. Gomez heard about the shooting and drove forty miles to the school, where she had two kids. She told the WSJ she saw police there doing nothing, as we've heard from other accounts. But they did at least do one thing. They put Ms. Gomez in handcuffs "for actively intervening in an active investigation."

"Ms. Gomez convinced local Uvalde police officers whom she knew to persuade the marshals to set her free. Around her, the scene was frantic. She said she saw a father tackled and thrown to the ground by police and a third pepper-sprayed. Once freed from her cuffs, Ms. Gomez made her distance from the crowd, jumped the school fence, and ran inside to grab her two children. She sprinted out of the school with them."

Taking all of this at face value because details of the event have changed every few hours, and as we saw with Ukraine, some of the early stories didn't hold up to sunlight. But taking Ms. Gomez's story and the reporting of it as is. This woman was able to hear about the shooting AND DRIVE FORTY MILES TO THE SCHOOL, where the shooting was still going on. And authorities were--allegedly--standing around not doing anything. I say allegedly, but it's not like there is an urgency to clear up bad info.

From the time the shooting started, Ms. Gomez was able to drive forty miles, get handcuffed, get unhandcuffed, and run into the school to save her kids. What the fuck were the authorities doing?
