Waffle House Waitress Scares Off Robbers With Gun. Gets Fired For It?!
We've seen loads of stories where gun owners protect customers from sketchy thieflings (see CCW Holder Drops Gunman Robbing Family Dollar Store and Good Samaritan SAVES Woman at Walmart). Apparently, that's not cool if you're a business employee. For instance, if you happen to work at Waffle House and you save the day? You lose your job...
By the way, the waitress didn't actually shoot anyone. We're talking a simple warning shot here - no turd burglars were injured in the process. The timing was off, yes, but the point here is that she wasn't fired for "reckless air-shooting." She was fired for having a gun while working at "gun free" Waffle House. Period.
It's also key to note the reasoning behind her actions. This is literally firing someone for the instinct of self-preservation...
“I didn’t know if they had guns. I didn’t know if they were going to their vehicle to get another one and could come back and try to get to the safe, so my instinct was to go to my car and get the gun,” she said. Stanley said she was only trying to protect the store and her co-workers...“For trying to protect their Waffle House and trying to protect their money and to get their money back, they let me go,” she said. A Waffle House spokesperson told Channel 2’s Matt Johnson that they are aware of the situation, but cannot comment on personnel matters.
“I know what I did. To myself I felt it was right and wouldn’t hesitate, I would do it again,” [Stanley] said.
Again, in case you couldn't tell, Waffle House considers itself to be a gun free zone. When reached for comment, corporate said this...
“We want people to feel safe on both sides of the counter."We just feel, for our company, this is the best policy to have in place, and this is a policy that a lot of companies have.”
In other words? The restaurant wants everyone to rest assured that absolutely none of their employees have a gun means of self defense. A fact not lost on criminals. Turns out the house of waffle has been subject to armed robberies before (see Gunman With AK-47 Robs 'Gun-Free Zone' Waffle House. Gets Dropped by CC Holder...).
Look, we get it, they pay people to fry waffles. Not be heroes. Sort of like how people show up to W.H. to eat waffles. Not be made dead by robbers. Crap happens.
The business clearly prides themselves in their politically correct, anti-gun ways. The irony here? While the restaurant chain insists on being gun free, it's still managed to be the host of a string of violent crime.
It appears the strict no-gun policy does little in the way of stopping all those dangerous criminals. Interesting. Thanks for making all your customers "feel safe," Waffle House...
This is the perfect mini-example of why gun control is a festering pile of wrong. It strips regular, decent folk of the ability to protect themselves. They're instead doomed to leave it up to chance - in this case, hoping they don't die in a Waffle House. Although waffles as a last meal? Not bad. Still, the worst part of all this is that when someone does attempt to defend themselves and the establishment... They get sacked. #Progress
