We're at a point where it is newsier to see a video of someone in San Francisco paying for stuff rather than stealing it. And for whatever reason, the San Fran thugs really hate their local Walgreens. Here we have another person taking advantage of the soft-on-crime policies that progressives vote for in liberal cities throughout America. We also have Mary. Mary doesn't give AF. Or, more apt, mayhaps she gives too many F's. Because she tried to stop the thug.

Unfortunately, for Mary, she is a tiny woman and the shoplifting barbarian is a shoplifting barbarian. Mary is lucky he only ignored her and didn't yeet her into the candy aisle. However, our bystander believes Mary could have gotten those chips if not for one tiny detail.

Here's the thing about Mary, and others who leap into action: Don't bother. I get wanting to do something, and if someone is stealing from you directly, you should protect your stuff. But cities that have lax pro-criminal policies like those that have made shoplifting all but legal also tend to throw the book at law-abiding citizens. They have to balance it out somehow.

All it takes is for the criminal to complain he was harassed, and Mary will be the one in trouble. If another cameraman claims Mary was "profiling" the dark-skinned thief, she's fired, no questions asked. Corporate doesn't care about Mary. Mary's elected officials don't care about her. It's best to do nothing, keep your job, and move to somewhere that isn't a crime-invested hellhole.

The only catch is to stop voting for the party that has turned your current city into a crime-invested hellhole. Break the cycle, Mary.
