Watch: Walmart Becky's the latest lazy Gen Z worker to whine on TikTok how they can't afford to live, blames GenXers
Walmart Becky here is the latest youngin' to discover the hard way how the Internet works. On behalf of us olds, we too would grow frustrated with our sh*tty retail jobs. We just didn't livestream about it. We'd go to our car during a break to smoke a bowl. It ain't much, but it was an honest living.
Stop us if you've heard this one before. A retail worker under a certain age has their first full-time job, hates it, and claims you're the loser for spending the rest of your life working a nine-to-five. They don't want to live their life like that, and it's your fault for making living so unaffordable.
I do not make enough to live on my own. I do not make enough to pay rent, water electric and eat. All by myself I would not be capable of doing that. ... Twenty years ago when you were getting started, you could live on your own.
I'll concede that things are more expensive today than they've ever been. But while Walmart Becky blames Gen X for making things more expensive, her generation are the ones who get conned into voting Joe Biden and the Democrat Party every year. By doing so, while their disposal income has dropped 7.5% since 2021...
- +16.7% more for milk
- +18.5% more for housing
- +20.5% more for food at home
- +24% more for eggs
- +36.2% in credit card debt
Politics aside, no one lived on their own twenty years ago. They had roommates. In many cases, more than one roommate. They shared utilities. Perhaps they went grocery shopping instead of eating out or Doordashing. They resued water bottles instead of rushing out to get a plastic cup they saw on TikTok.
Though I will be fair to Becky. Pulling yourself up by the bootstraps sometimes has its limits. It also goes back to decisions people made in late 2020/early 2021.
Twenty years ago working in retail WAS THE START OF THE JOURNEY. Retail jobs were never meant to be a final destination. Responsibilities can sometimes be difficult, but it comes with the territory of being a grown-up. Or "adulting" as people who whine about having to be a grown-up have started calling it.
Everyone from every generation has had the same frustrations. Walmart Becky isn't special.
