Gun Rights Win? Federal Judge Orders $5.1 Million To Gun Owners Arrested Under Unconstitutional Laws

A federal judge gave preliminary approval to a $5.1 million settlement agreement in regard to gun owners who had been arrested, jailed, and prosecuted, as well as their guns seized, under laws that have since been found to be unconstitutional.
In other words, this ban led to incarceration and harm for people who are otherwise committed to obeying the law.
According to The Washington Post, a ban on carrying handguns outside the home and others that banned nonresidents from carrying guns at all, have since been struck down in federal court.
One of the individuals arrested included a nurse from North Carolina who was pulled over for a routine traffic stop, according to the Washington Post. Smith, who had no criminal record, informed officers that she had a legally licensed pistol in her vehicle registered in her home state; she was then subsequently taken to jail.
Throughout history, governments in power have attempted to disarm its citizens. And obviously, our leaders are no different. However, this ruling shows that Americans refuse to compromise on their rights, and will not accept lawmakers who attempt to relegate law-abiding citizens as criminals.
There is no doubt that excessive discretion vested in government officials, coupled with ambiguously defined and overly expansive provisions, invites unwarranted encroachments upon our liberties.
D.C. will pay a total of $300,000 to the six plaintiffs and $1.9 million in attorneys fees, with the majority of the rest of the money for more than 3,000 people who may qualify for the class action, according to The Washington Post.
The incompetence of our nation's institutions has failed the American public time and time again. And yet, they want you to rely on them to save you. Except, we know that oftentimes, when it comes to ‘safety’ the government might indeed be the last place you'd consider seeking assistance from.
It is obvious that the government is not going to protect us and they know that if they take away the right to keep and bear arms, then all the other rights go with it.Latest
