Illegal immigration has been the hottest hot button issue of the Trump years. One side doesn't want it. The other side, the leftist side, wants all of it (see Lena Dunham Leads an Army of “Celebrities” to Defend Illegal Immigrants From… Well Who Knows? and Democrats Want Background Checks for Everyone… Except Illegal Immigrants). Though those are also the same people who think Donald Trump is literally a tyrant. As We the Internet points out, that doesn't add up.

The same people who call Trump "Hitler" also want to let in migrants and asylum seekers? They compare turning away asylum seekers at the border to the U.S. turning away Jews before World War II. But wouldn't the analogy be more like Jewish asylum seekers being sent into the arms of Hitler? Because remember, Donald Trump is just like Hitler. Possibly worse depending on whose tweets you're reading.

It's a humorous look at hypocrisy, especially when celebrities get involved. But it also says a lot about the rhetoric being used in today's politics. Especially when it comes to immigration. Yes, "both sides" do it. But one side gets called out for it every time someone's grandpa calls into AM talk radio. Screaming about people taking their jobs. How often do you ever hear the left get called out for far worse? Top influencers calling a president they dislike Literally Hitler gets barely an eyeroll. Unless it's cable news, where it gets completely ignored. Except for one obvious channel.

Not that "dialing down the rhetoric" is helpful. Especially when only one side is expected to do it. But "matching the intensity" of your opponent is something that could be helpful if more did it.
