FLASHBACK: Brussels Actually Ran This Tourism Ad. 'No Terror Attacks Here!'
Well, this is unfortunate. A lot of countries don't take Islamic terror as seriously as they should (::cough::thisone::cough::). But Brussels? They actually ran a tourism campaign that specifically focused on the notion there wasn't any terrorism there.
In an ad campaign that aired two months before Tuesday’s terrorist attacks, the tourism department of Brussels ridiculed the notion that the city was violent or prone to terrorist violence. The city set up a series of phones that people could call from all around the world and have everyday people in Brussels answer. “Did you see some people who are fighting with guns or bombs?” one caller asks.
“No!” the person who answered the phone laughs. “Oh my god, no way!”
“After Brussels was linked to terror plots, the international media portrayed the city as a warzone,” the ad read. “We wanted to change this perception with an honest answer.”
“Is it safe for this moment?” another caller asks.
“Of course it’s safe, it’s very safe,” the Belgian answers.
To be fair, this is more unfortunate than it is offensive. It's not like, say, claiming it was Brussels fault they were a victim to an Islamic terror attack in the first place as leftist media's attempted to imply. Because you know, Belgium is such a bastion of "right wing intolerance."
If you read the previous statement seriously, please strike yourself with great vigor.
The most obvious takeaway here is that if a country's biggest sell is "Hey, there's no terrorism here!"
... there's probably quite a bit of terrorism there.
This is also proves what I've already written about. Political correctness literally (and I mean that in the correct sense of the word) is taking lives. In an attempt to virtue signal their tolerance for Islam, Belgium turned a blind eye to reality and put innocent lives at risk. Even for the most ardent leftists, you have to acknowledge this ad as the result of one of two possibilities.
- Either the Belgian people are a stupid people, completely ignorant to the Islamic terror threat their country is facing. Or...
- Belgium fully understands the dangers that come with their multiculturalist, pro-Islam-appeasement policies, but they ran this propaganda anyway. Because political correctness is more important than the safety of innocent people.
Now I don't like attributing to collusion what can be merely chalked up to incompetence. However, I don't believe that the Belgians are a stupid people. So where does that leave me? I'll let you draw your own conclusions...
