Winsome Sears, Virginia's Lt. Governor-elect, became the first black woman to be elected to statewide office in Virginia. She is a Jamaican immigrant, a Marine, and a certified badass. Though, you might not hear much about her in the mainstream media because she is also a Republican. MSNBC and CNN were too busy calling Virginia voters raaaaaaaacist to carry Sears's victory speech.

It is a shame that in their whiteness, none of the "various folks" at CNN or MSNBC felt it necessary to mark this major moment. Brian Williams was particularly dismissive, but he's also a dickhead.

Virginia also elected Jason Miyares, the first Latino to hold statewide office, as their attorney general. You most likely won't hear his name much on CNN or MSNBC because, like Sears, he is also a Republican.

Congratulations to Lt. Governor-elect Sears and Attorney General-elect Miyares. Also, congratulations to the Virginia voters. You just elected a group of statewide officials more diverse than your typical CNN office party.
