Breitbart's Milo Crashes White House. Calls Out Facebook Censorship!
Yes, they actually let Milo into a White House press briefing. Well, hold on, I can't confirm that. Allow me to re-state.
Milo Yiannopolous, by some measure, was present at a White House press briefing.
Even more shocking, it was a really good, respectful exchange on the First Amendment...
“It’s becoming very clear that Twitter and Facebook in particular are censoring and punishing conservative and libertarian points of view…” he argued. “Is there anything the president can do to encourage Silicon Valley to remind them of the critical importance of open free speech in our society?”“You obviously can’t enforce the First Amendment on private corporations,” Yiannopolous allowed. “But there seems to be a very clear trend My verification check was taken away for making fun of the wrong group of people. Conservative commentators and journalists are being punished, being suspended, having their tweets deleted by Twitter. Facebook is removing criticism of immigration in Europe.”
“Are there any mechanisms the government can use to remind these companies that they have this responsibility, or do we just have to trust the market will punish them if they don’t?” he asked.
I've highlighted a lot of the censorship here at LwC, and have even been victim to it ourselves. Listen, Facebook and Twitter have the right to censor speech. That's not a violation of the First Amendment.
The problem occurs when they violate the trust of their users by selectively silencing voices of dissent, not even acknowledging their own content guidelines, while simultaneously lying to their users about abuses of said policy.
No. Social media was designed to be free and open. That's the only reason the companies have been profitable. The open windows have been increasingly slammed shut on Conservatives simply for holding a different point of view. That's the problem.
This site has been heavily targeted, and there's the very strong possibility that these social media giants will try to shut us down. Because the wave of censorship and throttling is coming. Regardless of who wins in 2016, there's a war coming. A big one. Don't be left out of the loop.
