Why are Guns More Popular Than Ever? Because Democrats...
Here's a theory for you to disregard completely, Democrats wanting to ban guns? All they've managed to do is make guns more popular. Than ever. For realzies. In particular, the scary-looking, black "assault weapons" about which Democrats so frequently fear-monger.
Behold, the numbers game (courtesy of TheGuardian):
In 1994, Morgan was in Birmingham, Alabama, working at a gun store to put himself through graduate school. A series of high-profile shootings had put military-style rifles on the political agenda. In 1989, a man with an AK-47 opened fire on a schoolyard in Stockton, California. The state passed a ban on semi-automatic “assault weapons” that same year. None of the banned guns were actual military weapons, which are capable of fully-automatic fire. But they looked like battlefield guns, and many Americans did not know the difference.By 1994, the Clinton administration was close to passing a federal assault weapon ban. Gun owners saw the ban coming, Morgan said, and their attitude towards military-style rifles changed dramatically. In the months before the 1994 crime bill, which included an assault weapon ban, passed, “there was a mad scramble among the shooting public”, Morgan said. Suddenly, customers were pouring through the doors of the gun shop where he worked, and asking to buy AR-15 style rifles, a civilian version of the military M-16.
“I believe it created a category of gun ownership that didn’t exist before. These were casual, recreational shooters that might not have gone out of the way to put down money for something like that,” Morgan said.
Quite possibly why the gun industry has seen a $9,000,000,000 boost (that's nine zeroes) under the Obama Administration who like, totally doesn't want to ban guns you guys! Obama said it himself. He just supports Supreme Court Justices who believe that you have no right to own a firearm whatsoever. Even a basic hunting rifle. Aaaaand he did try to ram through an all out ban on .223 ammo (one of the most common rifle rounds available). Aaaaand he did try to resurrect the "assault weapons ban". Aaaaand he did deliberately mistakenly conflate a semi-automatic rifle (basic hunting rifle) with already illegal "fully automatic" weapons on national television.
Aaaaand he's kind of a dick to gun owners in general. "Clinging to guns and religion" anybody?
So maybe that's the reason that law-abiding gun owners are a little leery. Heck, maybe that's the reason non-gun-owners are now becoming gun owners in record numbers. People who've never even considered purchasing a firearm before, are now out buying them in droves. I wonder, what are the chances of these millions and millions of Americans (many who are even registered Democrats) being nothing more than paranoid doomsday preppers basements full of hair-puppets?
But he totes just wants "common sense" gun reform. You know, like closing the gun show loophole.
Oh, wait...
