Watch: JD Vance initiates Trump's Greenland takeover, here's why it's CRUCIAL for America
The Danish Prime Minister is not happy JD Vance is headed to Greenland. Today’s show breaks down why the Greenland situation matters.
According to Reuters:
The United States is exerting "unacceptable pressure" on Greenland, Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Tuesday, ahead of an unsolicited visit by a high-profile U.S. delegation to the semi-autonomous Danish territory this week.
The visit to an American military base will include U.S. Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance, White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
"Greenland is and has always been a matter of national security," Crowder said. “There is plenty of precedence for the idea of this expansion.”
The U.S. vice president said on X on Tuesday that he will visit Greenland on Friday. His wife had been scheduled to watch a dog sled race on Friday, but that was cancelled and she will instead visit the Pituffik Space Base, the vice president's office said.
President Donald Trump on Monday reiterated his suggestion that the U.S. should take over Greenland, saying the vast island was important for U.S. national security. Frederiksen has rejected the proposal, saying it is up to the people of Greenland to decide their future.
According to CNN, “Trump is not the first US president to float the idea of buying Greenland. In 1867, when President Andrew Johnson bought Alaska, he also considered purchasing Greenland. At the end of World War II, the Truman administration offered Denmark $100 million for the island”
The United States has also bought land several times over the years. This includes the Louisiana Purchase, the Gadsden Purchase, and the purchase of Alaska.
So, while there is historical importance to purchasing Greenland, the only question that remains is if it’s even possible.
The more likely scenario is if Greenland holds an election and votes for its independence. The less likely scenario would be to make Denmark a tempting offer.
“It seems like Donald Trump is serious about Greenland, and he has good reason to be,” Crowder said. “Anyone who tells you this is absurd, and Donald Trump wants to go out and take over the Panama Canal, Canada, and Greenland, they are just not paying attention.”
