Why Leftism Cannot Function in the Face of Evil...
People are killed in a mass shooting. Where does leftism place the blame? The person? Not so much. Evil? Not really. How about guns? Ding ding! The inanimate tool is the object of leftist ire, rather than the evil that made use of it. Why?
This situation is one that presents the perfect opposition that Conservatism contrasts with leftism. Because when it comes to philosophical issues like this, yes, the 'isms' matter.
Conservatism, if boiled down to one, central principle, would be that of personal responsibility. This comes with freedom, as well as consequences. It's why, generally speaking, Conservatives believe in harsher consequences than their leftist counterparts. Recognizing that freedom can only exist in a moral society, Conservatism, by definition, has to allow less leeway for those who abuse freedom.
Leftism, if boiled down to one principle, is the interest of the collective. In order to achieve the collective good, individuals must be afforded less freedom and ultimately less responsibility. To leftists, it doesn't take a family to raise a child, it takes a village. The village bears equal responsibility. It's why for this reason, when leftists are faced with a definitive act of evil, performed by an individual with complete disregard for the collective, that their worldview becomes increasingly difficult to defend.
See if leftists can't credit full success to the individual ('you didn't build that'), they have to find a way around placing blame on that same individual when they commit a heinous act of inhumanity. That's where the blame displacement comes in.
ISIS just needs jobs, and they wouldn’t be violent. The Baltimore rioters were just unruly because they were oppressed. Muslims don’t attack us because their religion/prophet is evil…but because we aren’t tolerant. Robert Byrd only lead the KKK and repeatedly used the "N word" because of his liberal, Democrat-influenced upbringing. Okay, I feathered that last one in there, but you get my point.
I'm sure you're spotting a common theme. The people are rarely if ever blamed. In the face of rationalizing their worldview, leftists are forced to blame circumstances and/or objects.
Where does it lead? What's the end-game? Because this doesn’t end with guns. The nanny state will eventually come for everything. In England, they came for ‘pointy knives’, to end knife crime. In 2013—there was a legitimate petition to the Obama Administration to ban hammers and baseball bats! Because in the end, people will use everything for evil. Even their car. Collectivism by its very nature has to continually grow, it has to become more intrusive, because it's a failed ideology. There is no other direction for it to go. It's occurring as I type this. It's occurring at a great expense to the our nation, and ultimately the world.
But don't blame me. I'm just a guy with a website. And I "didn't build that."
