Geek Culture is funny. You had two different movies with female leads. Suicide Squad has broken $300,000,000 million at the box office, setting new records. The Ghostbusters reboot? You know, the most recent SJW measuring stick as to whether or not you hated women? It bombed to the point it may have killed the franchise...

As of Aug. 7, Ghostbusters had earned just under $180 million at the global box office, including $117 million domestic. The film still hasn't opened in a few markets, including France, Japan and Mexico, but box-office experts say it will have trouble getting to $225 million despite a hefty net production budget of $144 million plus a big marketing spend. The studio has said break-even would be $300 million.

Sony hardly is alone in suffering from audience rejection of sequels this summer. But film chief Tom Rothman and his team, along with partner Village Roadshow, had high hopes for launching a live-action Ghostbusters "universe." Now they are preparing for steep losses (think $70 million-plus) and an uncertain future for the franchise.

Let this be a teachable moment as we compare the two. Ghostbusters was marketed the way leftists market everything: if you disagree with us, you're are a sexist...or even worse, a Donald Trump supporter. It wasn't about making a good movie, it was about making a political statement. Which has a habit of alienating half of your audience (not to mention, people generally don't like remakes in the first place). Imagine that, right?

Suicide Squad on the other hand, was driven by three female leads (Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, and the Enchantress). You were probably shocked to hear that, yes? That's because the movie wasn't marketed as a new front of a culture war. It was marketed as a - get this now - a fun movie. I know right? There's a concept which isn't always used these days. Suicide Squad's marketing wasn't about justifying a political agenda. It was about entertaining an audience. There was a time, not that long ago, where movie studios made movies to entertain an audience. Apparently it is still a thing. You just have to look carefully.

If you're prone to using the logical side of your noggin, you would think SJWs would appreciate a comic book movie driven by three female leads. It's the dream, after all, for women to "kick ass" in movies, right? Wrong. Instead, they complained because Harley Quinn was too sexy. Always remember with SJW feminists, the female heroes? Have to be homely. Fat. Never, ever attractive. Ever.

The SJW feminists also got a kick ass female character in Wonder Woman. Yay for #YesAllWomen right? Wrong. Apparently Wonder Woman is too Jewish.

Maybe Hollywood will learn it's lesson...too late. They're rebooting Ocean's 11 as Ocean's 8 now. Get it? Because women get paid less than men or something.
