Ben Carson. When the electorate is hungry for change (actual change, not the market tested buzzword the Obama campaign used), Carson has a life story people connect with and admire. It's a Cinderella story that doesn't end with a glass slipper but a shining career of life-saving proportions. Compare that to Obama being a "community organizer." If that doesn't make you snort into your adult beverage, nothing will. Carson also has more humble decency in his life saving pinky finger than Obama has in his entire body. My experience is very different than what we have come to expect. I grew up poor. I know what it is like to be homeless and hungry. I know the pain of poverty. I also know that education and a mother’s love can be the path out of dire poverty. I know what it is like to see water fountains you are not allowed to drink out of because of your skin color. I also know that once you peel back the skin, the brain is the same no matter what your skin color or continent you live on. I know that victimhood is a trap. I know that it is our Christian responsibility to offer those less fortunate a hand up. I know my faith is strong and my ego is small...

I didn’t go to embassy cocktail parties or beg lobbyists for money. I spent night after night in a quiet, sterile room trying to save the life of a small child. That was my life’s service. This is my life’s experience... No where in the world, other than America, could a man whose ancestors were slaves, rise to become a leading brain surgeon and one day seek the Office of President.

Ben Carson is easy to connect with. He may not be the best debater (though let's give him back-slaps for some of his suit choices), but his soft tones and common sense messages resonate. Speaking of debates, here's a hilarious recap of Dr. Carson debating Trump on CNBC. While his political rivals have attended fundraisers and lobbyist galas where there's fawning and much kissing of ass, Ben Carson was in an OR, saving a child's life. Talk about contrast.

So it's a bit of a head scratch when people complain Carson hasn't been a "politician," as if being a butt-kissing, capitol-dwelling crap weasel is the most important part of getting elected. People connect with Ben Carson because many of them have been or are Ben Carson, coming from humble beginnings and remaining humble throughout their life. Well, you know, except for the brilliant nerosurgeon stuff.
