FAIL: Scientist That Predicted Ice Caps Would Melt In 2013... Now Claims 2016?
Riddle me this, Batfleck: what in the universe is constant and unchanging?
Answer: not a gosh darn thing. Yes, even the climate change scientists change their minds and "studies"...
Check this out and file it under "See, told ya so." In 2007, the BBC published an article which predicted the ice caps would melt by 2013. Pull quote:
Their latest modeling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years (2013).
Professor Wieslaw Maslowski told an American Geophysical Union meeting that previous projections had underestimated the processes now driving ice loss.
Summer melting this year reduced the ice cover to 4.13 million sq km, the smallest ever extent in modern times.
So you don't have to worry about the math, the ice should've melted by now. Yet there still be ice in them there caps. Maybe Wieslaw was busy playing FreeCell or something and wasn't paying attention to his computer models...But that's not the punchline to this joke...wait for it...
In 2013, when the ice should've melted, thus leaving the poor polar bears without a place to chill, THE SAME SCIENTIST Wieslaw Maslowski had another article (this one in The Guardian) come out pushing the ice melting date to back to 2016. Next year. Yes, really. Same batty guy, same batty channel. Different ice meltage date.
A paper by principal investigator Professor Wieslaw Maslowski in the Annual Review of Earth and Planetary Sciences sets out some of the findings so far of the research project:"Given the estimated trend and the volume estimate for October–November of 2007 at less than 9,000 km3, one can project that at this rate it would take only 9 more years or until 2016 ± 3 years to reach a nearly ice-free Arctic Ocean in summer. Regardless of high uncertainty associated with such an estimate, it does provide a lower bound of the time range for projections of seasonal sea ice cover."An ongoing US Department of Energy-backed research project led by a US Navy scientist predicts that the Arctic could lose its summer sea ice cover as early as 2016 - 84 years ahead of conventional model projections.
Whoa! This is it, for reals this time, you guys. The last couple of predictions were totes fake, just meant to get your attention. But the one published in 2013 that called for the ice to melt in 2016 (next year, you guys and gals and trans guys and trans gals) is for sure right on the bitcoin. It's happening. And it's our fault. Someone tell the Pope.
Also, how do I get the job of predicting weather? Doesn't seem like there's a whole lot to it. Must be nice to be in the climate prediction game. Those people can be wrong on a weekly forecast, and no one fires them or calls them on their crap. Then they get all this press when they predict something years or generations out (when most of us are conveniently dead), and the commie-pinko masses get all excited about human-caused destruction of planet earth! This guy, Wieslaw Maslowski got it wrong and just pushed his date back a few years. We'll follow up in 2016 to call him out on his crap again.
Climate change: religion for the Godless, idiot masses.
