FBI Tells Congress How They Failed Preventing the Florida Shooting
Congress is starting to investigate all the ways government officials failed to prevent the Parkland Florida shooting. Shockingly, it doesn't involve ripping a photo of Dana Loesch and screaming "Fight the real evil!" Nor does it include running Marco Rubio out of town past the Florida-George line. Or sending him to a Florida-Georgia Line concert. Which would be worse.
It involved putting the FBI (see FBI Received a Credible Tip about Florida Shooter. Did Nothing. and Report: Was the FBI Warned About the Parkland School Shooter?) under oath and asking, "Seriously, WTF dude?"
Short answer:
The long answer was provided to Congress on Wednesday.
Bowdich acknowledged that the FBI failed to follow its own protocol after it received a tip in January about the accused shooter, Nikolas Cruz, 19, and vowed to take corrective actions, according to a press release issued by Reps. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the chairmen of the Oversight and Judiciary committees, respectively.
"Vowed to take corrective actions." So they pinky sweared. Crossed their heart, hoped to die, stick needles in their eyes?
The FBI admitted just two days after the Feb. 14 shooting that it received a tip from a person close to Cruz the previous month warning about the teen's gun ownership, desire to kill and erratic behavior. That tip "should have been assessed as a potential threat to life," the FBI said at the time, but the warnings were never investigated further.
"A potential threat to life." Didn't the credible tip include someone saying "Dude, this guy mutilates animals and tattooed 'I'm going to shoot up a school' on his forehead. Maybe y'all should send out some suits to his casa."? Pretty sure the tip was rather clear on the killer's intentions. Alas. FBI had better things to do that day. I heard there was a darts competition that weekend.
The person who took the tip line call spoke with their supervisor afterwards, but that conversation was not documented, according to Gowdy and Goodlatte.
Notes are for pussies who can't remember their own anniversaries.
Bowdich also said that the employee who took the January phone call was able to connect the warning to another tip from September regarding a threatening YouTube comment. That comment, posted under the username "nikolas cruz," read, "I am going to be a professional school shooter."
Okay, so I wasn't off that far with the fake tattoo joke. The FBI really FUBARed this one.
Here's my biggest problem with the FBI f*ck up, because this isn't the first time the FBI has dropped the ball and innocent people have been killed (see Epic Fail: Muslim Warned FBI of Orlando Terrorist…in 2014 and FBI INCOMPETENCE? Rahami’s Father Warned Agency His Son Was a Terrorist…). How much more credible data is out there that some assclown working the tip line just said "meh" too? What's being done about that? 'Cause that seems a relevant area of concern.
Because if something like this happens again and we find out the intel was being ignored or dismissed again, you know where you can take your attacks on the NRA. It involves shining them up real nice and turning them sideways.
