Michael Avenatti, Julie Swetnick Referred for Criminal Investigation
What goes up, must come down.
Spinning wheel's got to go round.
Talkin' bout your troubles is a crying sin.
'Specially if those troubles never really happened.
Classy Curmudgeon Chuck Grassley has referred both the Creepy Porn Lawyer and Start a Gang Rape Train Swetnick (I'm channelling my inner Trump nickname game) for criminal investigation. Following what seems to be a rather obvious ploy to derail the Brett Kavanaugh nomination process with a story so wild even the most trashy tabloids blushed.
Swetnick, Avenatti Referred for Criminal Investigation: Providing False Statements, Obstructing Congressional Inves… https://t.co/E6Y3qXSPXX— Senate Judiciary (@Senate Judiciary) 1540486332.0
From Grassley:
When a well-meaning citizen comes forward with information relevant to the committee’s work, I take it seriously. It takes courage to come forward, especially with allegations of sexual misconduct or personal trauma. I’m grateful for those who find that courage. But in the heat of partisan moments, some do try to knowingly mislead the committee. That’s unfair to my colleagues, the nominees and others providing information who are seeking the truth. It stifles our ability to work on legitimate lines of inquiry. It also wastes time and resources for destructive reasons. Thankfully, the law prohibits such false statements to Congress and obstruction of congressional committee investigations. For the law to work, we can’t just brush aside potential violations. I don’t take lightly making a referral of this nature, but ignoring this behavior will just invite more of it in the future.
As far as I'm aware, Avenatti and Swetnick presented no evidence that anything Swetnick alleged was true. Like, say, I dunno WITNESSES or VICTIMS. As a result of the last minute attempt to screw Kavanaugh to a cross, Grassley is sending the duo to the corner to think about what they did. A corner also occupied by those with the power of law and justice.
Don't you just love happy endings?
Leftist whiners are already out there bitching about "But this is why victims don't come forward!" I won't allow it. Swetnick is a proven liar and total crazy person. Secondly, if any of what she alleged had a modicum of truth, she should've reported it to the police WHEN IT HAPPENED. Not 35 years later when Kavanaugh is about to be made a supreme court justice.
Real victims have actually been hurt by fake victims like Swetnick. We all want to believe real victims of sexual assault. But we also don't want innocent people maligned or criminally prosecuted. Ergo we will continue to seek and value evidence and due process.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to find a big sponge to soak up all these tears I'm shedding over Avenetti and Swetnick. #ThePainIsReal
