Mike Rowe Schools Bernie Sanders on 'Free College for All'...
We love us some Mike Rowe here at LwC. We've talked about his fabulous scholarship, and covered him when he completely destroyed Bernie Sanders over college tuition AND THEN went back to kick him second time. Anyone who can take that crapbag out to school him on the ways of life has our vote of approval.
With all the awesome Rowe oozes, we knew there was more to come. This time? The whole silly notion of "free college." Yeah, Mike Rowe ain't got time for that...
Truth is, a lot of well-intended parents still believe that kids who attend trade schools do so because they’re not “college material.” That’s an absurd stereotype with no basis in reality, but for the millions of parents who want something “better” for their kids, it’s reason enough to discourage a career in the trades. Unfortunately, this reasoning is not only faulty, it’s destroying economies large and small.Consider the number of college graduates today, who can’t find work in their chosen field. Hundreds of thousands of highly educated twenty-somethings are either unemployed or getting paid a pittance to do something totally unrelated to the education they borrowed a fortune to acquire. Collectively, they hold 1.3 trillion dollars of debt, and no real training for the jobs that actually exist. Now, consider the countries widening skills gap - hundreds of thousands of good jobs gone begging because no one wants to learn a useful trade. It’s madness. “College For All” might sound good on the campaign trail, but in real life, it’s a dangerous platitude that reinforces the ridiculous notion that college is for people who use their brains, and trade schools are for people who use their hands. As if the two can not be combined.
Before we get to the commentary part of this post, first we must do this...
Because I'm frankly sick and tired of this idea that trades jobs are for knuckle-dragging neanderthals. Especially when one takes a gander at what's coming out of these places of "higher learning." Read HILARIOUS: Comedy Central Skewers Sensitive Liberal 'Trigger Warning' Culture. With respect, gender studies majors? You're going to need to call a plumber when your blue-armpit hair clogs the sink. After you cut it off with scissors for a trim. Just saying.
Also, sorry for the grossness. But had to illustrate my point. It's a dirty job, someone had to do it.
Which brings us back to Rowe. This part was particularly funny....
If a majority of voters valued skilled labor as much as they value a sheepskin, I suspect Donald would be campaigning in a hardhat, Hillary would be stumping in steel-toed pumps, and Bernie would be handing out free welding torches.
He's not wrong. He's perfectly illustrated our political leaders' desire to keep a sort of educational caste system in place. It has a few tiers: College graduates (valued so long as their recent and still dew-eyed); blue collar workers (pandered to, come vote time); college graduates without jobs but with heaping piles of debt (valued more than blue collar); and lastly, WELFARE RECIPIENTS. Valued above everyone. For their continual suckage of taxpayer resources, thus reliably Democrat party votes.
This cannot be said enough: leftists want people to be dependent on the government, be it for free college or welfare. You blue collar tradesmen who have jobs and stuff? Who have houses? Who don't have college debt? Who plumb, wire, or build instead of theorize?
Hey, look, there's nothing wrong with having a degree. There are quite a few jobs which require it: doctors, lawyers, engineers. But there's also nothing wrong with saying heck no to the four year degree. You're not a loser without a degree, you just chose to do something else. Like maybe be a useful member of society. Plus employed. #Win
