Non-Scientist Bill Nye Tries To Scientifically Support Abortion. Fails Miserably...
Remember the once relevant but never real scientist Bill Nye the Science Guy? Yeah, he had the catchy song at the start of his show: Bill Nye the Science Guy, BILL, BILL, BILL! and used lots of fun fart noises to appeal to the kids? That Bill Nye. Well he's back, and he's making a move into the abortion debate with this video:
Many, many, many, many more hundreds of eggs are fertilized than become humans. Eggs get fertilized and by that I mean sperm get accepted by ova a lot. But that’s not all you need. You have to attach to the uterine wall, the inside of a womb, a woman’s womb. But if you’re going to hold that as a standard, that is to say if you’re going to say when an egg is fertilized it’s therefore has the same rights as an individual, then whom are you going to sue? Whom are you going to imprison? Every woman who’s had a fertilized egg pass through her? Every guy who’s sperm has fertilized an egg and then it didn’t become a human? Have all these people failed you? It’s just a reflection of a deep scientific lack of understanding and you literally or apparently literally don’t know what you’re talking about. And so when it comes to women’s right with respect to their reproduction, I think you should leave it to women.
No Bill, here's a little history for you. The definition of pregnancy was conveniently changed in 1965 so that certain abortifacients could be sold as "preventative" care. What was the definition and what was it changed to? Pregnancy used to be when the sperm fertilized the egg. Human. Pregnancy. See, birth control manufacturers didn't want to tell their women that while some contraceptive methods available truly were preventative (and still accepted by many Christians today) some of their pills and devices were in fact, abortafacients, so they simply changed the definition of pregnancy to implantation. Facts.
Notice how he also made a jab about "fact-based" and then asked "Well what's wrong with that?" Nothing, Bill, except you've got your facts wrong on this one. Abortion isn't about women's bodies and what they can and cannot do with them. Trust us, we don't care what a woman does with her body so long as she keeps it away from us. Really. Seriously.
Except here's the el problemo with Bill's argument: our "idea" of an "unborn person" clashes with his barbaric idea that it's totes fine to suck it out of a woman's womb while calling it a "woman's body." Also, facts again. Yes, those pesky facts Bill wants to rely on while casually avoiding them. Life begins at conception. It's settled, true science. That's why even so many prominent atheists, with no ideological battle in the fight, are willing to concede this argument.
But here's the takeaway: looks like the pro-abortion crowd is getting nervous. They're falling back on the age old "My body, my choice" and "don't tell a woman what to do, you SEXIST" mantra, because they know they're losing their slippery grip on the curettage and forceps.
