To Fix Broken Welfare, Denmark Ad Asks Citizens to... Have More Sex?!
We've had idiot senators tell us the most patriotic thing to do is pay taxes. Others will say it's joining the military and serving your country. In Denmark, it's having sex and babies. But don't worry, you don't need to book your trip just yet, because America might adopt a similar policy. See, Denmark's welfare system is about to collapse because the population is aging and is well below replacement levels (1.73).
To put it simply, the country is dying, and not enough babies are being born. Well Denmark approached the problem with a healthy dose of humor.
Watch:
Last year we at Spies Travels launched the ‘Do it for Denmark’-campaign in order to address the historical low birth rates in Denmark. Vitus, the baby conceived by the competition-winners was born in January this year. However the Danish welfare system is still under pressure. The birth rate is still too low despite a little progress after last year’s effort. And this affects us all, but those who suffer the most are perhaps those mothers that will never experience having grandchildren. That’s why we are joining forces with elderly women of Denmark who have become grandma-broody. We have a common goal: More babies. This year the Danes will conceive not only for their country but also for their moms. We think that will do the trick.
Yes, this is real. It's also the problem with, well, just about everything. Denmark needs more children to grow up, work, and support people who don't work, whether they're retired and on the government dole or if they just plain don't feel like doing any work. Like in the United States, the Denmark welfare system is top-heavy, the ratio of working people vs. non-working people is backwards. Couple that with couples who don't get it on, and now you have a real population problem.
Which kind of flies in the face of the over population myth we hear about whenever the Census says something censusy. Liberals tell us we have too many people, the poor planet cannot sustain us, and we're harming the environment just by being alive. The overpopulation myth is also another "convenient" way to justify abortion....which leads to lower birth rates and lower replacement levels and a toppling welfare system. It's a vicious cycle which can be cured with a little more loving, a lot less abortion and thus more babies born. And also, setting fire to the welfare system and having people work for themselves and take care of themselves. We'll take baby steps and let the babies take steps first.
Kudos to Denmark for shedding light on this problem with a fun video filled with double entendres. Humor. It works.
